How can the small actions we take at school have a bigger impact on our community than we might think? That was the question we asked ourselves before deciding it was time to bring blood drives back to Country Day School. At first, it didn’t seem like something huge—just an idea we believed in, but one we weren’t sure would go very far.
With the help of our school staff, and in collaboration with the Banco Nacional de Sangre, we turned generosity into real impact. This project started as a small idea but quickly grew into a large-scale initiative that had the potential to help hundreds of people. An idea soon became a reality—from coordinating the event and promoting it around campus to watching people walk through the doors and realizing this was truly going to make a difference. Seeing everything we had planned come to life made it feel even more meaningful than we had expected.

The best part of the blood drive was being able to connect with people and realize just how much support we had. Seeing parents, staff members, and students show up—some with nervous faces, others excited and ready to donate—made all the hard work feel worthwhile. It was inspiring to see students and faculty so passionate about helping others. Even people who couldn’t donate still came to show their support, making it feel like everyone was part of something bigger.
Because it wasn’t just about donating blood—it was about something greater. It was about what can happen when people come together for a cause. It was about stepping outside your comfort zone, helping people you may never meet, and realizing that even a small act can have a lasting impact.
Overall, the blood drive was a success: 34 viable blood bags were collected, potentially saving approximately 136 lives, while many others came simply to show their support. Beyond the numbers, though, it left us with something even more meaningful—the feeling that what we did truly mattered. Being a student at Country Day School means having opportunities like this, where students are empowered to lead, create, and make a genuine difference. This wasn’t just another school event; it was a reminder that when the CDS community comes together for a cause, we can create real change. Sometimes, the smallest ideas end up having the biggest impact.
This blog is part of our A Student’s View series, where students share their perspectives, experiences, and the impact they are making in our community. We are proud of the student leaders who brought this initiative to life and grateful to every member of our school community who donated to help save lives. At Country Day School, meaningful, real-world learning empowers students to lead with purpose, reflect on their impact, and discover that even the smallest actions can create lasting change.
